A Saturday night gunfire made Virginia State University in the US to go on a lockdown for several hours. The shooting was reported during a homecoming weekend at Virginia School, Petersburg, which is 24 km away from Richmond. The incident occurred at around 8.25 US time and the authorities said they found at least one man suffering from a gunshot wound. However, the injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
The authorities said this was an isolated incident and that there was no further threat to the campus. The cops later cleared the scene and announced the lifting of the lockdown. The officers will remain vigilant, the Virginia State University police said.
The incident comes days after the deadly shooting at Las Vegas, which killed 58 persons and injured scores. The shootout happened during a country music festival in Las Vegas.
