Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday made interesting remarks in AP Legislature Council. Intervening in a debate, Naidu raised a question as to what special benefits will accrue to the State if it secures special status.

You tell me what Himachal Pradesh and other North Eastern states are getting due to the special status. Now the Centre is giving benefits equivalent to special status. How can you blame me for accepting funds from the Centre. We need funds for state’s development.

In the face of strong criticism from Opposition YSRCP, Chandrababu Naidu said: “What’s wrong with the financial package?” while asking the members to find out the gaps in the package while they can be redressed in consultation with the Centre.

Finding fault with with senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who said AP will get Rs 60,000 crore funds every year if special status is granted, Naidu wondered whether it’s possible.

“You tell me what Himachal Pradesh and other North Eastern states are getting due to the special status. Now the Centre is giving benefits equivalent to special status. How can you blame me for accepting funds from the Centre. We need funds for state’s development,” said Naidu.
