HYDERABAD: The killing of all four accused in the brutal gang-rape and murder of a young veterinarian by the police in an 'encounter' early Friday morning was hailed by people who were demanding justice for the victim.
Interestingly the encounter took place between 3:30 am and 5 am in the morning hours. The four accused were taken from a secret location, when the Shamshabad police had taken them there for scene reconstruction at Tondupally Toll Gate. From there they had taken them to the Chattanpally under-bridge. It was here that the accused had apparently tried to snatch the guns from the police and escape. They were shot dead in the police firing.
Large number of people who gathered close to the 'encounter' scene near Shadnagar town raised slogans hailing Telangana police and Cyberabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. Some of them said the police delivered "instant justice" by eliminating the perpetrators of the gruesome crime. They were seen showering flower petals on the police officials and distributing sweets.
Flowers were also strewn in the same place where she was burnt, as a mark of tribute to Disha, and as a symbol of culmination of the assistant veterinary surgeon who was gang-raped and murdered at Shamshabad near Hyderabad on the night of November 27,.After committing the gang-rape ,the accused had dumped the body and set it afire at Chatanpally near Shadnagar, about 50 kms from Hyderabad.
The police gunned down all the four accused at the same place, where they were taken by the investigating officials to recreate the crime scene.
Cyberabad CP Sajjanar reached the scene of the encounter and inspected the place.
The panchanama was conducted at the site of the encounter and the bodies will be shifted to Mahaboobnagar Hospital for post mortem due to security reasons
It is expected that there will be an official announcement later in the day by the Cyberabad CP after the formalities are completed.
It may be recollected that Shadnagar town had witnessed massive protest on November 30, a day after the accused were arrested. The protesters who had gathered outside the police station, had demanded that the accused be handed over to them so that they could be dealt with. Police had a tough time in controlling the crowd and they had to bring the magistrate to the police station to send the accused to judicial custody. The protesters had pelted stones when the police were shifting the accused to Cherlapally Jail in Hyderabad.
Twitter erupted in praise for the commissioner of Cyberabad police, VC Sajjanar after all four accused -- Mohammad Arif, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen Kumar and Chinthakunta Chennakeshavulu were killed in the encounter.
