BJP State vice president ,Bandaru Dattatreya, party's only MP in Telangana, took oath as Ministers of State (Independent Charge) on Sunday.

Early life:

Bandaru Dattatreya  was born to  Anjaiah and Eswaramma on 26 February 1947 is an Indian politician. Dattatreya  was married to Vasantha on 17th May 1989, and had two children Vijaya Laxmi and Vaishnav Bandaru.  He completed his primary and second education from Gowliguda goverment school. He completed B.Sc from Osmania University.

Political career:

Dattatreya joined RSS in 1965. In 1980 after the transformation of Jana Sangh into BJP, he joined the BJP. There was no looking back for him. He served as Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  Andhra Pradesh, in 1980, General-Secretary, BJP, Andhra Pradesh from 1981 to 1989. He was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1991 apart from MP, he was a member in Public Accounts Committee and member in Committee on Welfare of SCs, STs and Minorities. From the year 1996 to 1998 he was made President of BJP.

The veteran leader, currently BJP's national vice- president, had earlier served as Minister of State in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cabinet between 1999 and 2004. He held portfolios of urban development and railways. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Secunderabad constituency in 1991, 1998 and 1999. After losing two successive elections from the same constituency in 2004 and 2009, Dattatreya was re-elected in this year's general election. He is currently the chairman of OBC MPs Association and has previously served in various parliamentary committees.

Non Political career:

Apart from his political career he also served as General Secretary for Voluntary Organisations, India. Joint Secretary - A.P. Cyclone Committee. He was a Tobacco Board member  from  1991 to 1996. He was also a member of Railway Advisory Committee from the year 1991 to 1996
