As the clashes between separatists and security forces continue in Kashmir post the death of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani, locals classified adverts in print media paint a gloomy picture.

Generally post-Ramadan period there’s a boom in weddings. However, recent clashes have left several locals with no choice but to either cancel the wedding or make it a simple affair. This trend became common during the 2010 violence.

The locals are issuing adverts announcing the cancellation of weddings. Currently, the entire newspaper classified section is filled with dozens of ‘Invitation Cancelled’, ‘Marriage Postponed’, ‘Walima Cancelled’ ads. On Wednesday itself there were more than 25 such ads
