HYDERABAD: The sensational murder case of Abdullapurmet Tahsildar Vijaya Reddy took a turn on Thursday as the accused Suresh, who also sustained burn injuries during the incident, died while undergoing treatment in Osmania General Hospital.

The doctors declared that he succumbed to burn injuries as his condition deteriorated today. Suresh, a farmer from Abdullapurmet mandal burnt Tahsildar Vijaya Reddy alive on Monday and he was also injured severely at the time of incident. Vijaya Reddy was burnt completely after she was set ablaze by accused Suresh in her own office when she was on duty. Suresh sustained 65 percent burn injuries when he poured petrol on MRO Vijaya Reddy and he was admitted in Osmania hospital.

In his statement to police earlier, Suresh said that he set the Tahsildar ablaze as she refused to give patta to a disputed land in the mandal. He also said that he went to Tahsil’s office several times and requested Vijaya Reddy to issue the certificate, but failed to get the same even in his last attempt on Monday. He also added that he got irritated with the continuous refusal by Vijaya Reddy and finally took the extreme decision of setting her ablaze. He informed the police that he first poured petrol on himself to threaten the lady officer and then poured it on her.

K. Gurunatham, the driver of Vijaya Reddy who tried to save her also died in the hospital on Wednesday, as he sustained 90 percent burn injuries.

On the other hand, the police have hastened the investigation in this sensational case. They have collected the call data of both Suresh and Vijaya Reddy and are suspecting the involvement of bigwigs behind the land dispute. They took a few realtors into custody and are questioning them to solve the case at the earliest.
