Hyderabad: The people of Telangana will have to wait a little bit longer for the monsoon to hit the state. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad, the Southwest monsoon has been delayed and is expected to hit Telangana on June 19.

Meanwhile, the state will experience a hot spell as a heatwave warning has been issued for several districts in the state till June 16.

Previously, the IMD had set the date as June 12 for the monsoon to enter Telangana but with Cyclone Vayu drawing up all the moisture and heading towards Gujarat, causing a delay which further resulted in the rise in temperature.

The heatwave conditions are expected to be severe with temperatures likely to go up to 44 degree Celsius in Nizamabad, Adilabad, Nirmal, Jagtial, Komaram Bheem, Mahbubnagar, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Kamareddy, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Karimnagar, and Khammam.

Hyderabad witnessed a maximum temperature 37.7 degree Celsius on Wednesday but the temperatures are set to witness rise up to 2 degree Celsius over the next few days.

As per the IMD, Telangana will experience hot weather conditions across the state for the next two-three days but the mercury levels are expected to decline with the gradual progression of monsoon which is likely to cover Telangana by June 19.

Keeping in view of the 10 days of delay in onset of monsoon, the meteorologists state that the delay may reduce the average rainfall that Telangana receives in June by 30%. However, the seasonal rainfall is predicted to be 97% normal.
