Hyderabad: The officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have closed down 15 pubs in Jubilee Hills in connection to the violations including situated in unauthorized structures, fire clearances, and lack of parking.

Most of the pubs shut down were near Jubilee Hills. Around 10 of the pubs were being run without mandatory building clearance by GHMC and unauthorized floors in steel structures.

According to the details shared by Khairatabad zonal commissioner Musharraf Ali Faruqui, the list of pubs which were shut down include Hard Cup Cafe, United Kitchens of India, Prost Brewpub, Chemistry, Celebrations, Karma and others.

Some of the pubs were old residential buildings which were converted into pubs and lacked parking space while others had unsafe kitchens and didn't provide fire exits. Following several complaints of vehicles being parked illegally on the roads, leading to traffic nuisance, the officials took action against the pubs. Also, the pubs only had provisional trade licences, issued under the Telangana government’s Ease of Doing Business policy and not the occupancy certificate issued by the GHMC. As per the provisional license, the owner should get a permanent licence within three months as the license would expire. It also comes with the disclaimer that they would not run in unauthorized structures. On the basis of provisional trade licences, the pubs had been amounting to power and water supply, besides excise permission.

Despite being issued three notices in two months time, asking them to produce valid documents, the owners failed to do so. Hence the officials took action and shut down these pubs.
