Hyderabad: Responding to a request call from the Telangana Government, the Army on Friday took up rescue operations in several parts of rain-ravaged Hyderabad. GHMC has requested the Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for rescue and relief operations in the twin cities until the city returns to normalcy. The Telangana Government has appointed a three-member co-ordination committee to liaison with the Army.
The Troops monitored the situation in Alwal as several low-lying areas became lakes and launched rescue operations wherever necessary.
KT Rama Rao, Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration, has made an appeal to those who live in low-lying areas to move to safer places. He said the government has kept two helicopters ready as part of the rescue operations. KTR visited Hussain Sagar area and monitored the situation. GHMC officials told KTR that total water level is 514.75 meters, but current flow is crossing 513 meters. KTR ordered the officials to take remedial measures to release the excess flood water.
Meanwhile, GHMC Commissioner reviewed the situation in the city and said that all the possible measures are being taken to speed up the rescue operations to help people suffering from heavy rains. The commissioner has requested people not to believe rumors making rounds in the social media.
Mayor Bonthu Rammohan warned that the government would take stringent action against those who spread rumors. “We’re monitoring the situation in the twin cities from minute to minute and engaged in rescue operations. If any one tries to spread rumors in social media, we’ll track IP address and take legal action against them,” he said.
The GHMC is supplying drinking water by tankers to low-lying areas. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Hyderabad has recorded 73 mm of rain. Heavy rains have been recorded in several areas of Hyderabad including Nizampet, Begumpet, Alwal, Quthbullapur, Charminar, and Malkajgiri.

The heavy rains continue lash Telangana and AP due to the low pressure continuing over Andhra Pradesh and its adjoining areas. Also, a trough in the lower levels is running from Northwest India up to the centre of the well-marked low pressure area across Vidarbha and Telangana.
