Hyderabad: After abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution that gives Jammu and Kashmir special status and making them a UT, there is a political buzz in Telangana that the BJP could carve out Hyderabad as a union territory to corner the TRS and the MIM.
During the state bifurcation movement, all parties, except MIM demanded that Hyderabad be given a UT status, but instead it was made the joint capital of AP and Telangana.
There is a talk among BJP leaders of the state that with this move the Centre will have direct administration on the state and also keep a check on MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi.
Meanwhile, the BJP state leaders have claimed that they will celebrate the Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17 and also invite BJP president Amit Shah and hoist the national flag in Hyderabad. It needs to be recalled that the ruling TRS has always prevented the BJP from celebrating the day since the formation of India's youngest state.
The leaders of the TRS, MIM and the Congress opine that such a move is not even in the realm of possibility for the BJP to make Hyderabad as UT. But they also suggest that afte BJP abrogated Article 370 in JK that gives special status to the state, such a possibility in the case of Hyderabad too cannot be completely wiped out.
The ruling TRS says that such a move by the BJP in the state of Telangana will only strengthen TRS's hold in the state.
Telangana PCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy was quoted saying by a leading daily, “Making Hyderabad a Union Territory is not possible and it is a mere rumour. I cannot comment on hypothetical questions.”
