Hyderabad: Chandrayanagutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on Tuesday said that All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is the most secular party in the country. He was addressing a crowd to mark the 44th death anniversary of former MIM president Abdul Wahed Owaisi.
Akbaruddin said that when Wahed Owaisi revived the party in 1958, Nehru had asked him to wind up the party, for which the party floor leader in TS Assembly claims that Wahed Owaisi was put into jail for almost a year.
Talking about his party, Akbaruddin said that due to differences in the local cadre, the AIMIM has become weak.
“The party which had won nine corporation seats along with two co-option members won only two seats in the last municipal elections. We have to bury our differences and revive the party,” he was quoted saying by a leading daily.
The AIMIM has plans to contest 60 divisions in the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation.
“Even though we may lose the elections, we must not allow the BJP candidates to win,” Akbaruddin said.
