Hyderabad: Accusing the Telangana government of negligent attitude with regard to Intermediate results, BJP Telangana State President K. Lakshman who had been on an indefinite fast from Monday called it off on Friday. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaraj Ahir offered Lakshman a glass of Orange juice to end his fast.
Lakshman went on an indefinite fast after the bungling in Telangana Intermediate results led to suicides of over 20 students across Telangana. He was arrested from BJP State Office in Nampally, Hyderabad, and was shifted to Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences in Panjagutta on Monday. He was defiant and continued with his fast in the hospital too. Several BJP leaders, from the State and national-level, visited Lakshman in the hospital and expressed their solidarity with his demands. They came down heavily on the TRS government placing the blame squarely for student suicides on it.
Despite being a relatively smaller player in Telangana, BJP is hopeful of growing its presence in the State as the significance of the principal opposition, Congress party, is decreasing by the day. It acted with surprising alacrity soon after the issue came to light and the news of over 20 students killing themselves created ripples in the State.
