Hyderabad: Former minister and senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy accused the Election Commission of acting as a sister organisation to the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS). Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the leader recalled the EC's admission on the mistakes in electoral rolls. Who is to be blamed for the mistakes? Will the EC take action on the authorities concerned ? asked Shashidhar Reddy.

The Congress leader said the EC removed around 30 lakh voters from the electoral rolls. The fact that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had congratulated the EC in the cabinet meeting says it all about the relationship between the two entities, he added.

Demanding that the EC take action on the officers responsible for the discrepancies in the voter lists, the Congress leader commented that KCR would soon become the No. 1 leader in the country in abusing democracy. Speaking on the occasion, another Congress leader Mallu Ravi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a unilateral decision even after senior Congress MP Mallikharjun Kharge suggested taking a statement from CBI Director Alok Verma.

"Amid much hullabaloo, Alok Verma was transferred only to protect the BJP from Rafale scandal. PM Modi used the Constitutional right for his own good. Democracy is in danger," he said.
