TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy was addressing an election rally in the old city of Hyderabad, when the prayer call was sounded from a nearby mosque. The TPCC president promptly paused for the Azaan to get over and resumed his speech only after it was completed.
Uttam Kumar Reddy's gesture struck a chord with the audience at this meeting organised by the Jamiat-ul-Ulema. The TPCC president reminded the gathering that he belonged to the old city and was in fact born at the Nizamia General Hospital at Charminar in the locality. From his childhood days, he interacted very closely with members of the Muslim community and counted many of them among his close friends. Further, he was very familiar with customs and practices followed by the Muslim community, he said. Uttam Kumar Reddy also told the audience that he had a proven track record as an airforce pilot having served with defence forces for 15 years.
