In a significant comment, Union MInister M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said that those who shift parties should resign the posts and positions that they got because of the party they left. He said an act needs to be legislated to ensure that. He also called upon all political parties to come together to fight the scourge of defections.

Talking to mediapersons at Hyderabad on Monday, he said in Karnataka, the minority BJP Government had taken leaders from other parties. But, they were all made to resign their existing posts and fight elections. He said other parties too should do this.

These comments assume significance in the light of Telugu Desam Party engineering defections from the YSRCP and making four of them ministers.
