Police Crack Murder Mystery of 65-Year-Old Woman, 4 Arrested

Mulugu: Police cracked the sensational murder and robbery case of 65-year-old woman in Mulugu, Bhupalpally district, following the arrest of the accused.

On January 19, the 65-year-old woman Venkatalakshmi was robbed off her gold ornaments and was brutally beaten to death by unidentified persons at her residence. According to the police, the accused have been identified as Masragani Ratan, Dhandaboyina Raja, Naveen and Muneer Basha.

Raja, a native of Peddalepaka mandal in Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh, has been residing in Mulugu for the past 12 years. He had been residing with the victim's son Masragani Vijay in the village and had been running a paddy-cutting machine for a living.

A year ago, Raja met one Masragani Ratan of the same village. Ratan used to borrow agriculture equipment from Raja on rent. Later, both Raja and Ratan ran out of money and got addicted to alcohol.

Ratan found Venkatalakshmi with gold ornaments on her body and devised a plan to rob her. Ratan shared his plan with Raja. Later, Raja contacted his friends in Andhra Pradesh — one Naveen Kumar 21, Muneer Basha. To execute the plan, Raja asked Ratan to bring Naveen and Basha to Mulugu from Tirupati on January 17.

On January 19 night, Naveen and Basha found Venkatalakshmi alone at her house and attacked her. While Naveen got hold of her legs, Muneer Basha showered blows on the victim's face and put cloth in her mouth. Learning that the woman was dead, the accused made away with 9.15 tulas of gold. After the crime Naveen and Basha were sent back to their village in Kadapa.

Following a complaint from relatives of the deceased and the clues secured from the neighbours, the police swung into action. They suspected Raja and verified his call data. Based on the call data records, Ratan, Naveen and Basha were arrested.
