HYDERABAD: As incidents of leopards straying into residential areas due to their shrinking space are on the rise, another such incident has been reported from Telangana on Thursday.

A leopard was spotted at the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State (PJTS) Agricultural University campus on Thursday night triggering panic, a leading daily reported.

Forest officials say that it could be the same feline as was spotted on the main road in Katedan area on May 14. It was first spotted near the road
underbridge at Katedhan after which it had escaped to nearby farmland near NH 44.

After checking the area for two days, officials said that the big cat had moved away into a forest area near Chilkur via PJTS agricultural university.

On Thursday night, locals alerted police that a leopard was lurking near PJTS varsity campus and the National Institute of Rural Development
campus. When officials checked CCTV footages, they confirmed that the leopard was seen roaming in the area at around 8 30 pm.

Police say that they informed the forest department after confirming its presence and rescue operation has begun.

People staying in the vicinity have been asked to stay on alert and not panic.
