Based on the sources, the 51-year-old had an aortic dissection in his heart last week in Canberra. Aortic dissection is a medical disorder in which the inner layer of the body's major artery tears.

The former player has to undergo multiple operations and he will be shifted to a specialty hospital in Sydney soon.

In his career, he played 200-ODI and 62-Test matches. With 3,320 Test runs and 218 wickets, Cairns is one of the best all-rounders in the world. In one-day internationals, he took 201 wickets and scored 4,950 runs.
