West Bengal Bypolls: Mamata's Fate To Be Sealed Today

The polling for the Bhabanipur by-election began on Thursday, 7 am. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also contesting in this. As per the officials, all the necessary measures and restrictions were in place keeping the pandemic in mind.

Along with south Kolkata's Bhabanipur, the by-polls are also being held in Jangipur and Samserganj seats in the Murshidabad district. 6,97,164 voters were counted to be eligible to cast their votes in these three constituencies.

The voting will be done today and the counting on October 3. Apart from Banerjee, Priyanka Tibrewal from BJP is also being seen as a strong candidate. This by-poll is crucial for both parties especially the TMC. As Banerjee lost the Nandigram constituency in the assembly elections, a few months ago, she has to win this by-poll to maintain her position.

People lined up in long queues to vote. The voting will end at 6 pm today. Priyanka Tibrewal from BJP and CPIM candidate Srijib Biswas are standing against Ms. Banerjee.
