COVID: 7 Private Hospitals in AP Booked for Treating Without Permission, Irregularities

A week after the Andhra Pradesh Police filed cases against six private hospitals in the state for irregularities in COVID-19 treatment, seven more hospitals were booked on Thursday after State Vigilance departments conducted raids. The irregularities came to light after joint teams of Vigilance and Enforcement, Drug Control and Medical and Health departments conducted raids in several hospitals across the State.

The hospitals have been booked for irregularities like charging patients higher than the government fixed prices, treating COVID patients without permissions, not including them under Aarogyasri Scheme and providing false information. 

West Godavari: A criminal case has been registered against Chaitra Hospital in Eluru for giving treatment to COVID patients without permission, charging high prices and giving false information about patients.

Guntur: Vishwas Hospital in Guntur was booked for charging exorbitant prices and for not providing COVID treatment under Arogyasri health scheme.

Chittoor: Cases have also been registered against Prasad Hospitals in Pileru, Chittoor district for irregularities.

Vizag: Cases against SR Hospital in Visakhapatnam, Anil Nirukonda, Ramya Hospital were registered for charging high prices, misappropriation of Remdesivir injections.

Vijayawada: Vigilance officers also raided Shriram Hospital at Vijayawada for treating patients without permission and charging exorbitant prices. Officers also registered a case against Achutha Enclave, a place where the treatment was being given to patients illegally.

Complaints have been registered under the respective local police stations against the hospitals under provisions of Sections 188, 420, 269 of IPC, and Section 51(a) of the Disaster Management Act. So far, the AP government has registered cases against 37 private hospitals in the state.
