Superstar Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan and Power star Pawan Kalyan have huge fan following across the world. And their film releases are being celebrated as festivals across the world, such is the status they enjoy.
However, no matter how big a star is audiences wouldn't forgive the stars should they make any objectionable comments on a real life issue or a social problem. What celebrities say not only have an impact on the fans but also affect the box office numbers.
Going into details, Superstar Rajinikanth's Kaala was released on May 4 after much delay but it didn't do the expected business for various reasons although fans went ga ga over the script. Rajinikanth's comments on the Cauvery water issue badly impacted Kaala box office numbers. Before Kaala released, Kannadigas protested against the release of the Tamil film. The makers of the movie even sent a plea to the court seeking smooth release of the film. But Rajinikanth's comments on the Cauvery water dispute disappointed the audiences and most of them decided not to watch it.
Something Similar happened with Bollywood actor Aamir Khan too when he spoke about intolerance in the country saying his wife had suggested moving out of the country out of fear. His fans and even the general public were so upset that they trolled the actor on twitter. Aamir Khan used to be the brand Ambassador of Snapdeal. Post the intolerance controversy, many of his fans even uninstalled the app and boycotted his film affecting its fortunes.
Now, the latest seems to be the case of Ram Gopal Varma whose latest venture Officer featuring Akkineni Nagarjuna turned out to be a box office disaster. Reports suggest that the film was declared a flop because of bad publicity that RGV garnered for making objectionable remarks against Power Star Pawan Kalyan through Sri Reddy who grabbed headlines for speaking up on casting couch in Tollywood.
We don't know about box office success but actors' comments does have its effect impact on the fortune of their films. This is based on the recent outcome of movies.
