It's the birth anniversary of Ustad Bismillah Khan, a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan.
Google marked the Shenai maestro's 102nd birth anniversary with a special doodle. The illustration shows India's most celebrated musician playing the shenai. Khan hails from Bhirung Raut ki Gali in Bihar and was born into a family of musicians. He also earned the title Ustad (maestro) for his musical brilliance.
Bismillah Khan took music to the global scene after performing at the Edinburgh Music Festival.
The biggest honour, however, came for Bismillah Khan when his shenail heralded India's declaration of Independence from Red Fort and creation of Indian Republic.
The ustad passed away in August 2006. One of his famous quote goes thus...“Even if the world ends, the music will still survive… music has no caste.”Google Doodle's fitting tribute to Bismillah Khan is well deserved.
