Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao may soon have a new bulletproof bus worth Rs 7 crore in the wake of threat from Maoists. With going to polls next year and KCR planning to tour all over the state, he seems to have decided to procure a bullet proof bus.
In this regard, a meeting was held on Monday attended by officials from Transport and Home departments. The planning and procuring would be looked into by Roads and Buildings principal secretary Sunil Sharma. Tender proposals would be called in soon and the new bus is likely to get ready in three to four months.
It may be recalled that, KCR who enjoys Z+ security 24 hours now had previously procured Rs 5 crore bulletproof bus, built by JCBL of Chandigarh. However, his move to purchase a costly vehicle was condemned .
KCR who resides in Pragathi Bhavan sprawling 9 acres has well guarded security and bulletproof windows too. Incidentally, on Monday, Maoists torched Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus after asking passengers to alight in Telangana-Chhattisgarh border's insurgency-hit Sukma district. The incident took place between Peddakudthi and Penta villages under Dornapal police station limits when the two buses, were heading to Hyderabad, a senior police official said.
