Vellore (Tamil Nadu): Ambur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dhanraj is accused of earning Rs 1.5 crores a month through threats, coercion and bribery.
A brick kiln owner Panneerselvam of Thanangkuppam was in the sand transport business. However, due to a ban on sand quarrying, he stopped transporting sand. DSP Dhanraj, however, coerced Panneerselvam to continue transporting sand and demanding Rs 1,25,000 as bribe. After several of Panneerselvam's friends joined the business, the police officer demanding bribes from them. However, after several rounds of bargaining, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 40,000 per month.
The brick kiln owner and his accomplices, later, alerted the vigilance officials. The latter laid a trap and caught the DSP and Sub-inspector Loorthu Jeyaraj. DSP Dhanraj was also earlier caught demanding bribe from illegal toddy cultivators and kidnappers during his posting in Virudhnagar.
