Chennai: Actor Vishal was arrested by the police while he was staging a protest against the Returning Officer's rejection of his nomination for the RK Nagar by-election on Wednesday. He was released later after being shifted to the police station.
In a strong reaction to the Returning Officer's decision, Vishal Krishna staged a sit-in along with his supporters condemning the rejection of his nomination. Now he is planning to move the High Court challenging the RO's decision.
It may be recalled here that Vishal nomination was rejected by the RO as two of his proposers claimed that they did not sign his nomination papers and their signatures were forged. Vishal countered the claim saying that Sumathy and Deepak, the two propesers who alleged forgery of their signatures, were threatened by AIADMK politicos and he even released an audio tape purportedly of the proposers being coerced.
Tough the election returning officer first accepted the nomination, he later rejected it after AIADMK staged a protest against acceptance of Vishal's nomination. However, the High Court may not stop the election process until his petition is finally decided.
