With the issue of "EVM tampering" assuming significance, the Uttarakhad High Court on Thursday issued orders to seize the EVMs used in Assembly elections in Vikasnagar constituency.

The defeated Congress candidate challenged the victory of the BJP candidate in the constituency and filed a petition in the High Court. The court issued orders in connection with the petition.

The High Court sent notices to Election Commission, state election commission, Uttarakhand chief secretary and BJP candidate who won the Vikasnagar Assembly segment.

It may be recalled that Uttarakhand state went to polls in February-March this year along with Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Goa and Punjab.

The BJP had a sweeping victory winning 57 of 70 Assembly seats in the state.

The court's decision on EVM came amidst the allegation from the AAP leaders that the EVMs in Punjab were tampered. Even after the results of MCD civic polls in Delhi, the AAP leaders blamed the EVMs for their defeat to the BJP.

Ever since the issue has become a hot topic, the Supreme Court had recently thrown an open challenge to prove that EVMs can be tampered.
