New Delhi: YSR Congress Party MP Vijayasai Reddy said that government should be cautious enough to not delete the names of Indians from Assam final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC). Around 40.07 lakh applicants did not find a place in the document, touted to be a proof of Assamese identity.

Talking about the Assam NRC in the Upper House of the Parliament here today, Vijayasai Reddy said that the government should not punish the innocent people and they should take remedies to include those names in the NRC list.

He called upon the government to give residential status to legal immigrants from Bangladesh. People who live peacefully and do not create trouble should be given a chance to live peacefully. Later generations of people living with residential status would at least get Indian citizenship, he added.
