Ranchi: The Modi-Shah juggernaut which gave resounding victory to BJP also resulted in Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD drawing a blank in Bihar. While the BJP secured 39 out of 40 seats, Congress managed to win one Lok Sabha seat. RJD recorded a zero.
Dejected by his party performance, Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is currently serving a 14-year jail term in connection with fodder scam stayed away from eating completely for two full days. Despite jail officials requesting him to eat, he did not relent and stayed firm on his decision. As a result, his health worsened as he has diabetics, blood pressure, and other kidney-related health issues.
Taken aback by his response to the results, RJD leaders rushed to the jail to convince him to eat. They promised him that the party would bounce back and would improve its performance in the ensuing Assembly elections. Finally, after a lot of persuasion, he was convinced and had his food on Sunday afternoon. Currently, his health is stable.
The Congress and RJD were in an alliance, while the BJP contested on its own and swept the polls in the State. RJD supremo Lalu Prasad was sentenced to 14 years in jail and fined Rs 60 lakh by a special CBI court in connection with the fourth fodder scam case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from Dumka treasury in the early 1990s.
