Rampur/UP: Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Azam Khan, had made derogatory statements in a public rally against BJP candidate Jaya Prada in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur constituency on Sunday. The SP leader had said, that for 10 years the person sucked the blood of Rampur , I held that person's finger and brought the person to Rampur. I made her familiar with the streets of Rampur. I did not let anyone touch her.You made the person your representative for 10 years.Understanding the person's real face you took 17 years. I realised in 17 days, that the underwear beneath is of the khakhi colour", he said while speaking at the rally.

Jaya Prada,while speaking at a rally spoke about how she had to leave Rampur after indecent images were circulated and attempts were made to attack her with acid by the SP leader. She broke into tears saying that no politician had come to protect her and even Mulayam Singh had not responded to her pleas, Jaya Prada claimed. She composed herself and said that she had strength of the BJP behind her, would not cry further and would live and serve the people of Rampur.

Azam Khan's remarks were strongly critizied by the BJP and its ally Janata Dal United. BJP union minister Sushma Swaraj who took to Twitter condemning his remarks and asked Mulayam Singh Yadav and former UP chief minister, not to stay silent and respond to the derogatory remark.

Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma also responded and said that a notice from the NCW would be sent to him and that she would also request the Election Commission to bar him from contesting elections.

Jaya Prada had won the Rampur Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and 2009 on a Samajwadi Party ticket, was later expelled for alleged anti-party activities in 2010. She joined the BJP last month. Rampur is voting in the third phase of the General Elections in 2019.
