Girls from this college are forced to urinate in open - Sakshi Post

Over 400 girls from Smt Durgabai Deshmukh Women's Technical Training Institute at Ameerpet are forced to urinate in open. They make a dash either to field or use unused classrooms. Astonishingly the 40-year-old government college doesn't have a single functional toilet which is quite disturbing.

The worst part is that the girls give a miss to classes during menstruation. The students plea about the uncleanliness and unhygienic conditions of campus have been falling on deaf ears.

One of aggrieved parents said, " we are poor, and most of the girl studying here come from a poor background. Our daughters are getting sick due to negligence of college authorities. We can't bear the medical expenses."

M. Nagaraj, former HoD of Department of Architecture in November wrote a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. In the letter he stated "The toilets in the institution are untidy. Neither are they cleaned regularly nor are there any proper facilities. The girl students of the institution are facing a lot difficulty while using the toilets".

Nagaraj also wrote the letter to State Women and Child welfare Department and is awaiting for a response from the government.

When asked about the menace faced by girls, Suresh Janga college principal said, "The toilets that we have are abandoned. Since the building will be demolished, we can not repair it."

He further added that a new college construction work is underway but when asked about its inauguration, he said, due to lack of funds we are unsure of its completion."

The students and the faculty hope that the government would intervene and come to their rescue.
