Chandragiri: YSR Congress Party candidate from Chandragiri constituency, Chevireddy Bhasker Reddy welcomed repolling in 5 polling booths ordered by the Election Commission of India. The ECI should examine CCTV footage to decide whether undemocratic and unconstitutional means had been employed by some people. He added that for many years Dalits in the constituency were prevented from exercising their right. Bhasker Reddy appealed to people to exercise their right to vote freely. The YSRCP candidate said that he had repeatedly asked the Election Commission officials to check CCTV footage and determine whether some people had indulged in electoral malpractices. The YSRCP candidate pointed out that there was a pattern to the manner in which Dalit voters were denied their right to vote. The TDP resorted to similar tactics earlier and his complaints went unheeded, he said.

Bhasker Reddy said that the APCEO and ECI paid heed to him only after he sent a legal notice saying that will file a petition in the Supreme Court on the subject. Earlier, he had complained to the ECI on the day of the election itself, Bhasker Reddy pointed out, seeking a repoll in 7 booths.

Though the YSRCP candidate had complained about 7 polling centres, the ECI ordered a repoll only in 5 polling booths, he added. He pointed out that Dalits did not vote in Chandragiri over the past 30 years.
