Kidney Racket Unearthed In Vizag
Visakhapatnam: A major kidney racket was unearthed here, though belatedly. The details regarding the kidney racket at a private hospital here came to light after a victim complained to the police on the matter after being cheated by middlemen.
It is learnt that gullible poor, who were in dire need of money, were targeted by these brokers.
The victim, Parthasarathi, has been working as a security guard in in Hyderabad. A Bengaluru-based broker, Manjunath, approached him and came to know of the dire financial straits he was in. Manjunath offered Parthasarathi Rs. 12 lakhs for his kidney. The victim agreed to this and underwent kidney transplant surgery conducted by Dr. Prabhakar at Shraddha hospital here.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter and have also appealed to people and the media to come forward with complaints of this kind. The cops also pointed out that organ sale was a crime and sought the cooperation of the public and the media in checking it.
Major Theft In AP IAS Official's House
Amaravati: a major theft was reported in the house of a senior IAS official, principal secretary of water resources, Shashibhushan Kumar here, who lives in government quarters near the Suryaraopeta Rythu Bazar in Vijayawada. Police suspect the security guard posted at his house of being involved in the robbery. It is learnt that the police and the official in question kept the matter under wraps as a large amount of cash and gold went missing.
Cash amounting to Rs. 85 lakhs and jewellery worth about Rs. 24 lakhs were stolen, according to media reports. The theft is reported to have taken place about a month ago. Police recovered a part of the stolen booty, it is learnt. The officer reports say, did not actively press the matter and was content with what was recovered.
Several police officials contacted by Sakshi, however, denied any knowledge of the burglary.
