Prakasam: In a road accident that took place on the Ongole-Vijayawada National Highway, a lorry crashed into a temple in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred near Venkatapuram village of Addanki Mandal. The lorry heading from Vijayawada to Ongole rammed into the Hanuman Temple situated alongside the road.

The impact of the collision resulted in the instant death of the driver and the cleaner after sustaining serious injuries in the mishap.

The vehicle was identified to be from Bihar. With the help of the locals, the police brought out the bodies, which were trapped in the lorry cabin. Police suspect that the incident might have occurred due to the drowsiness of the driver. The bodies were shifted to the government hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered and the police investigation is underway.
