Chain Snatchers Strike At 5 Places In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Just a day after Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar released statistics about the decrease in crime and instances of chain snatching in Hyderabad saying it had come down by 65% with only 20 chain snatching cases reported in 2018 as against 53 last year, chain snatchers struck again at nine places in the city suburb limits. It is reported that more than 20 Tolas of Gold chains were snatched from helpless women (mostly middle aged housewives), in a span of 20 hours.

It is learned that two miscreants travelling on a sports bike committed the crime at Meerpet, Hayathnagar, L.B. Nagar and Vanasthalipuram, Chaitanyapuri and Kuntluru police station limits.

The CCTV footage and visuals show the main snatcher riding the bike sporting a light blue full sleeves T shirt , jeans and a helmet. He is also seen carrying a backpack, while the second person on the pillion is seen in a white shirt and jeans, covering his face with a white kerchief wearing black shades. In some places he has removed the kerchief from his mouth as per the CCTV visuals.

Bhaskara Lakshmi (35), a resident of NGOs Colony, was returning home when the miscreants came from behind and snatched a gold chain weighing three tolas.

Within 20 minutes after the incident at Vaidehinagar, the miscreants escaped with six tolas of gold chain from Jayamma (45), a resident of Raji Reddy Nagar in Hasthinapuram.

In another incident that took place at Hayathnagar, snatchers took away four tolas of gold chain from a woman named Reshma Reddy.

Again in Chaitanyapuri Police limits, the snatchers stole 2.5 tolas of gold from a 40 year old lady Eswari (40), she had also resisted the attack and left with the remaining 2.5 tolas of the chain. More than 20 tolas of gold were reported stolen in these cases and Deputy Commissioner of Police (L.B. Nagar) Sunpreet Singh confirmed that five chain snatchings had taken place in the evening alone in these places.
