Hyderabad: Close on the heels of a Redmi phone blast, yet another case of phone explosion has been reported from Shamshabad near Hyderabad.

According to police, a man identified as Chitti Babu had recently bought a Redmi 4A phone which is being sold as a budget phone with all the best features of a smartphone.

Chitti Babu went to buy vegetables when his phone rang. On answering the phone, he could feel the heat and saw smoke emitting out of his Redmi 4A handset. He soon threw the mobile on the ground only to witness his Redmi 4A explode! The man thanked his stars for having escaped injuries. The customer has lodged a complaint with Xiaomi, the Chinese brand that manufactures Mi and Redmi phones which gives huge competition for market leaders like Samsung and Nokia.

This is not the first time that a Chinese brand phone has exploded. In April last year, Bhavana Suryakiran, a resident of Ravulapalem in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh had a similar bitter experience.

His smartphone in his pocket caught fire when he was riding a bike. He too had blamed the company for selling a defective piece. However, a statement from the company read: “Upon first impressions of the damaged device, we can conclude that extreme external force was applied to the device, which led to the back cover and battery being bent and screen getting damaged.”

Xiamoi also advised its customers against meddling with the phone battery or applying extreme force. It also asked its customers to get their handsets repaired only from authorised Xiaomi outlets.
