Charmme Skipped, Cinematographer Attends For Interrogation In Drugs Scam

Charmme, Shyam K. Naidu, Chakri - all are closely related to Puri Jagannadh in the industry - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: After a 10-hour-long grilling of Puri Jagannadh in drugs case on Wednesday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Excise and Enforcement has skipped Charmme for questioning on Thursday and instead called cinematographer Shyam K. Naidu.

Shyam was among the 12 persons who were served notices by the department in the case but the second day was allotted for Charmme, one of Puri's close associates. However, on the clues given by Puri during his interrogation, SIT skipped the actress and rescheduled Shyam's questioning for the day.

Shyam is the younger brother senior cinematographer Chota K. Naidu and both look almost alike but the younger one worked for Puri on several movies. His phone number is said to have been found on the drugs kingpin Calvin's contact list and also on the mobiles of three other event managers arrested in this connection earlier.

A SIT official told media after completing Puri's questioning on Wednesday that the director has 'given clues' that could speed up the ongoing probe. "Puri has totally cooperated with the examination. He gave several clues and also blood samples voluntarily," he said.

In yet another stunning development in the scam, the name of music director Chakri who died an untimely death last year, also cropped up as one of the victims of the lethal substance. Chakri began his career with Puri's Baachi and did several popular songs for many of the director's movies later.

Chakri reportedly died after consuming an overdose of mood-changing drug LSD. Calvin is learnt to have disclosed this to the investigating officials. “I thought my chapter was closed when Chakri died, but luckily it had gone unnoticed at that time,” he is believed to have told the officials during his interrogation.

3 Courier Firms To Be Questioned For Negligence In Drugs Case

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing drug racket in Hyderabad has summoned three major courier companies in connection with the case.

Officials of DHL, Blue Dart and Fedex have been asked to appear before SIT, said a statement from the investigation team on Wednesday night. As the role of postal department has also come under scanner, SIT has written a letter to Chief Post Master General seeking his support in the investigations. SIT, comprising official from enforcement wing of Prohibition and Excise Department of Telangana, is is focusing on how the courier services and also postal department neglected identifying drugs supplied from abroad. The accused arrested in the sensational case told SIT during the questioning that they received drugs from Netherlands, Germany, USA, Britain and other countries through couriers and post.

SIT will seek explanation from courier companies on the negligence. The investigators served notices on the courier companies on a day when they grilled Telugu film director Puri Jagannadh for over 10 hours. They are probing the links of some Tollywood personalities with the drug racket. SIT has served notices on 12 film personalities including some top actors and actresses for questioning in connection with the case. The racket was busted earlier this month when the enforcement officials arrested Calvin Mascrenhas and other accused, who revealed that they have been supplying drugs to school and colleges students in the city and some Tollywood artistes.
