New Delhi: All banks require that you maintain a regular average monthly balance known as AMB into your accounts failing which a penalty is charged. Top national and private banks have their fixed AMB requirements which differs according to the customers's location which could be urban, metro, semi-urban and rural areas. State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, HDFC bank and ICICI have their fixed requirements.

But, few banks also give you the facility to open a savings account without the minimum balance.
