The late former prime PV Narasimha Rao was an alumnus of the college which was established in 1927 as a collegiate high school and came under Osmania University in 1959 by starting UG courses. The college was shifted to KU in 1976 and it started PG courses in 1995. The college is now conducting UG courses in 30 combinations, 10 PG courses and a vocational course. The college got NAAC accreditation with Grade A in 2004 and re-accredited in 2014-15.

Despite good academic performance, the Arts and Science College is facing a severe staff crunch as the recruitment of regular teachers did not place in years.
