The encounter in Seshachalam forests is fast turning out to be a millstone around the TDP government’s neck in Andhra Pradesh.

After its home minister N Chinna Rajappa proudly announced that 20 red sanders smugglers were killed in an encounter in the Seshachalam hills close to the Tirumala.

Soon, human rights organizations and civil rights activists began voicing concern at the way the encounter was organized and about the unusually high toll. By afternoon, Tamil political parties took up this issue and slammed Chandrababu Naidu government.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Panneerselvan has even demanded ex-gratia from the government of Andhra Pradesh to the kin of the deceased. In another development, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh telephoned to Chandrababu Naidu and enquired about the incident. YSRCP too condemned the encounter and demanded a probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, the tense situation prevailed in Tamil Nadu what with miscreants attacking 7 APSRTC buses in Koyambedu bus station in Chennai. In another incident, unidentified miscreants attacked buses belonging to AP near Tada on Tamil Nadu-AP border. As a precautionary measure, the APSRTC has suspended all its services to Tamil Nadu.
