The Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced the New Sand Mining Policy – 2019 focusing on transparency, convenience and fair usage of sand. They have identified more than 187.8 lakh tonnes of sand reserves across the state to meet the entire sand demand. Several preparations have been made to ensure that maximum quantity of sand is excavated. However, production was hampered due to continuous rains and flooding of major rivers in the state
With the floods receding slowly, in the last 4 days, more than 3,00,000 tonnes of sand have been excavated. Production on 07th November is 86,482 tonnes compared to 31,576 tonnes on 1st November. With flood water further receding, more number of Open Reaches, Patta Land and Desiltation Points coming in to operation, the daily sand production in the state is likely to exceed 1,00,000 tonnes per day shortly.
Districts have also started sand excavation in 1st order, 2nd order and 3rd order streams and more than 300 locations are identified, and sand excavation is in progress. As soon as flood water recedes, the production shall be ramped up to meet the entire requirement. The detail status of the production details is provided below
