It was widely said that in the Chandrababu regime, Dr. Ravi Kumar was turned into a rubber stamp and the administration of SVIMS slipped into the hands of relatives of the TDP chief. There is widespread criticism that with his inaction, Dr. Ravi Kumar could not stop the loss caused to the state treasury by henchmen of the TDP chief and other party leaders. The director came under a lot of flak for corruption under the TDP regime.

There were several controversies in the TDP era, according to sources. The director could not stand up to the pressure exerted on him by relatives of Chandrababu Naidu, it is said.
