The month of Sravan or Sravana masam Maas is the 5th month in the Hindu Calendar. What adds significance to it is that during this month, the Nakshatra ‘Sravan’ is the ruling star on full moon day. This is how the name of this month has been derived. This month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Hindus worship Him during this month. It is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva during Sravan maasam and seeking His blessings of Lord Shiva yields fruitful results. Worshippers observe fast through the month and make offerings to Lord Shiva. Abhishekams and special pujas for Lord Shiva are performed during this period.
