Amma Vodi is a revolutionary step which will go a long way in transforming the lives of millions of families in Andhra Pradesh. During the course of his 14-month-long padayatra, YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had highlighted Amma Vodi as one of the flagship schemes of welfare governance uner the rubrik of Navarathnalu.
In dozens of public meetings and interactions with groups of people, he emphasized the need to focus on eduction. He pointed out that it was important for the government to step in with the required support to arrest the dropout rate of students and conversely drive up th enrolment. Just as he had visualised, YS Jagan rolled out Amma Vodi after assuming office and the results are there for all to see. Enrolments have already seen a spike while families are relieved of having to send schoolgoing boys and girls as daily wage earners. Extending the scope of the benefits of Amma Vodi to intermedidate students has widened its reach and has targeted more families. In the years to come, Amma Vodi will be seen as a pathbreaking initiaitve in the realm of education by any government in the country.
As per the scheme, Amma Vodi which is applicable to poor students studying in both government and private schools, mothers who send their kids to school and junior colleges will be paid Rs 15000 per year.
