Nandyal: Nandyal police tried to stall protestors participating in a bandh demanding Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh. Some of them were even assaulted. The Nandyal DSP is reported to have manhandled the women protestors. Despite many women suffering injuries, the police did not yield and continued their assault.

Meanwhile, many YSR Congress Party leaders across Kurnool district were arrested, while others were placed in house arrest. Shilpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy and other leaders were arrested here today and shifted to police station.

The bandh call given by YSRCP in protest against the Central government for not according SCS to AP has received full support from APUWJ. The journalist unions criticised the attitude of state government towards SCS. They said irrespective of political affiliations, they would join the fight for achieving SCS. The journalists condemned the illegal arrests of YSRCP leaders.

The bandh was observed in Allagadda region while Allagadda YSRCP in charge Gangula Bijendra Reddy and MLC Prabhakar Reddy participated in protests. APSRTC operated services in the region with the help of escort.

Similarly in Nandikotkuru police stalled the rally taken up by MLA Ijayya and Siddhartha Reddy. YSRCP leaders sat on the road in protest against the police high-handedness in the town.
