TDP, A Sinking Ship In Visakhapatnam

The Telugu Desam Party is currently facing an unprecedented existential crisis - Sakshi Post

The Telugu Desam Party is currently facing an unprecedented existential crisis. Nowhere is the scene of the sinking ship of TDP more evident than in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, with the party being pulled in different directions by various leaders.

Only 4 MLAs from the TDP managed to win in the April 11 elections this time. A key player among the winners is Ganta Srinivasa Rao, though he huffed and puffed on his way to victory at the hustings. He, like the other TDP leaders, appears directionless.

SA Rehman has been nominated as the Visakhapatnam president of TDP. It is widely known that Rehman and TDP MLA representing Visakhapatnam West, Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar are at loggerheads with each other. The latter has vowed not to step into the party office as long as Rehman continues to be president. He has also been publicly critical of Rehman.

As regards Visakhapatnam East, represented by Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, he has been keeping away from party affairs, say many of his own party men. They say that he finds himself increasingly isolated.

All these factors point to a sharp decline in the fortunes of the TDP in Visakhapatnam district, apart from other places across the state.
