New Delhi: YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy demanded that the Union government grant Special Status and other promises made to Andhra Pradesh during the bifurcation.

Speaking during the motion of thanks to the President in Lok Sabha on Monday, Reddy pointed out that the State of Andhra Pradesh was going through a tough time financially. He specifically drew the attention of the members to the fact that the State was paying a staggering Rs 20,000 crore every year as interest for the debts taken. The crisis was so serious that it was finding extremely hard to pay salaries to the employees, he said.

He also pointedly asked what the Centre was doing to lift the farmers out of the debt trap and informed that 77 percent of farmers in Andhra Pradesh were burdened by debts. The Centre should follow the Swaminathan Commission recommendations to improve the lives of the farmers in the country, he added.
