War Of Words Between Ruling Party-Opposition Leaders In AP Assembly

AP Assembly Session Day 4 - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: Irrigation Minister P Anil Kumar Yadav and TDP MLA K Atchennaidu engaged in a verbal duel on the fourth day of Assembly session over the irregularities in Polavaram Project that marked the TDP government.

The AP Assembly convened on Monday to pass the motion of thanks on the Governor ESL Narasimhan's address.

In response to Atchennaidu's statement, Anil Kumar made caustic remarks saying that '' they have not left a drop of water, nor a tree for shade and have wasted Rs 18 crore in the " Neeru Chettu" ( Water Tree) programme formulated by N Chandrababu Naidu in 2015.

In a scathing tirade of remarks, he said that what the TDP called as the "lifeline of Andhra Pradesh'', they first estimated a cost of Rs 16,000 crore. But now the TDP has the dubious distinction of escalating the cost to more than Rs 56,000 crore. Not just that, in the name of Dharma Porata Deekshas', they have siphoned off funds to the tune of and more than Rs 500 crore, he alleged. Just like Ali Baba and the 40 thieves... 'Ali Babu' had grabbed 23 YSRCP MLAs and hence God had given him only 23 MLAs this time, he derided.

YSRCP MLA Gadikota Srikanth Reddy said that the Polavaram Project needed 24 permissions out of which 23 permissions were procured by the late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy during his tenure, for which the merit should go only to him. He is the reason why the project continued, he informed. It seems that there is no change in the TDP MLA's behaviour despite being in the Opposition and at least now, he should speak responsibly, he advised.

In another critical rejoinder, he said that when a baby boy died after he was bitted by rats in a Guntur Hospital, the TDP spent Rs 1 lakh for each rat to be caught. In total, they spent Rs 60 lakh for catching 300 rats, he fumed.

He said that the name of Polavaram should be changed to ''Somavaram" ( Monday) where they would end up putting brick and mortar every Monday, he scorned and asked that is this how they planned to make this a national project.
