Nara Lokesh tasted a bitter defeat as he was trounced by his rival from YSR Congress Partya Alla Ramakrishna Reddy in Mangalagiri. It was said that the TDP leadership had scouted for a safe seat for the Supremo and chief minister's son to ensure victory. But as things turned out, the former IT minister of Andhra Pradesh who made his debut in the electoral contest from Mangalagiri lost to Rama Krishna Reddy popularly known as RK by 5312 votes when reports last came in. Meanwhile, his father former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu retained his Kuppam seat.
Nara Lokesh's father-in-law and Hindupur MLA actor Nandamuri Balakrishna also retained his seat. It does appear that Nara Lokesh's ambition to project himself as a player on the centrestage of state politics has taken a severe beating. He will however continue to be an MLC.
