Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has made necessary arrangements and the stage is all set to arrest Ashok Dakavaram, CEO of IT Grids Pvt Ltd, who is one of the main accused in the data theft case. The data theft case of voters, which came to light last month had a taken a back seat due to elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It has once again come to fore with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) filing a case relating to "unauthorised usage and storage" of details of 7.82 Crore Aadhaar holders from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The complaint was transferred to the SIT and the team is reportedly formulating a plan to arrest Ashok Dakavaram and may also seek legal directions from the court in this process.

Meanwhile Ashok Dakavaram who has been absconding since the case came out and has not responded to any of the Notices sent to his residence till date. It is alleged that he is hiding somewhere either in Vijayawada, Nellore or Guntur districts. SIT Chief IG Stephen Ravindra had earlier said that a Look out Circular (LOC) was issued against Ashok Dakavaram and that he would be brought to book and tracked down wherever he was. But since the case involved the role of senior AP political leaders including Chandrababu's son Nara Lokesh, whom Ashok is said to be very close to, was creating hurdles in the investigation process. The Telangana SIT members have been asked to carefully handle the case to avoid any kind of issues with the AP government.

IT Grids which is the main accused in 'theft of voters data' through Seva Mitra, a mobile app which it had developed, and was used by the ruling TDP in AP. Preliminary investigation revealed that the company got illegal access to various personal and sensitive data of individuals such as Aadhaar, electoral rolls, government schemes and voters information related to various political parties, which could have been misused for illegal purposes. Since the data of AP and Telangana citizens has been compromised and is perceived as a serious offence, the case has assumed wider ramifications now.
