Will Make Tirupati Liquor Free, Remove Slums: Bhumana

The Tirupati nominee for YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, promised that if he was elected, he would make the holy city free of slums and liquor.

He was addressing the media at a 'meet the press' programme at the Press Club in Tirupati on Tuesday, said that there are 42 notified slums in the city and another 10 un-notified slums. These slum areas are far from development and so the residents are leading a miserable life "I will take the development of all the slum localities on a priority basis to see the world-famous pilgrim city is slum-free," he averred.

The Ex-MLA and former TTD Chairman said that he would make an effort to see that the sale of liquor is banned in the corporation limits to uphold the sanctity of the city.

Bhumana also said that he was responsible for the launch of satellite TV channel 'Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel (SVBC) when he was the Chairman for the TTD. This was with the motive to propagate Sanathan Hindu Dharma worldwide.

'Dalitha Govindam' a path-breaking initiative by the TTD aiming at conducting religious programmes like Kalyanotsavam in the colonies of SC and STs was introduced by him.

He was responsible for many other initiatives like giving free food to over 25,000 students studying in TTD educational institutions, Rs 2 lakh of fixed deposit for students studying in Vedic schools and also a mass marriage programme that had benefitted 37,000 couples.
